Glossier is a skin care and makeup line created by Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss. After years of asking models and makeup artists about their favourite skin care products, she finally decided to create a line of essential beauty products on her own for everyday use. Glossier’s branding is very fun and minimalist, so a lot of you were asking whether the products are really worth the hype? Or is it not?
I was always crazy about good packaging & branding. So when I first saw Glossier’s Instagram, I fell in love and was sold right away. I decided to purchase the phase 1 & 2. However, they only ship to US & Puerto Rico area only. So, as I can’t wait to try it, I asked my friend in US to order the products for me *yeay*
First things first, look at the packaging! It is very minimalist with white based colour and a pop of pale pink. The Products come with a free “Skin is Skin” tote bag, sticker, and a poster. They also provide a cute pink bubble wrap zippered pouch. Isn’t it wonderful?
My skin condition right now is normal to dry. I used to have combination skin, but maybe my last face wash makes my skin a bit dry ( Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser ). So I’m trying to find a skin care products that is gentle and moisturizing my skin. Glossier’s products does not have any smell on it, which makes it less irritant to the skin ( perfume is an irritant ). They attempt to achieve “the less is more” by simplify your skin care routine. The key to a great skin is how you treat it and I can definitely see a different in my skin after using it for the first time!
Milky Jelly Cleanser – The cleanser is very gentle, with no fragrance. They claim that it can also removes makeup. The cleanser is very soothing, does not make my skin dry or patchy. The consistency is like a mix of gel and jelly if that makes sense (lol). I use this daily, morning & night.
Yes, it can definitely remove makeup, but only non-waterproof and easy to remove kind of makeup. For waterproof eyeliner or mascara, the cleanser does not really do a good job on removing it.
Priming Moisturizer – I love the moisturizer, it is very light and can reduce redness instantly. The formula leaves my skin soft and perfectly primed for make-up. It also does not have any scent on it. However, I would say that this moisturizer is great for normal to dry skin, since it does not leave any matte finish.
Perfecting Skin Tint in Light – If you like lots of coverage, this skin tint may not suit your taste. I don’t wear a heavy foundation on my daily makeup, so for me, this is perfect. It gives my skin a dewy finish without making it looks cakey. If you love that dewy, fresh, no-makeup makeup look, then you should give this one a chance!
Balm Dotcom – This stuff is seriously bomb.com! I often use it on my lips before I apply makeup, because my lips tend to be chapped and dry. This product leaves my lips soft and smooth, oh and lipstick-ready!
On the picture above, my upper lips – I did not apply anything, my bottom lips – applied Balm Dotcom.
I would say that this makeup set is a perfect one for you who loves sheer makeup, no-makeup makeup look, and who does not have much time to do makeup in the morning. Glossier promises an uncomplicated, simple makeup routine that gives dewy skin results. This set consists of Stretch concealer, Boy brow, and Generation G lipstick.
Boy Brow in Brown – I heard some very good reviews about this product! This one reminds me of Benefit gimme brows. This stuff is meant to thicken, fill in, and groom your brows into place. As I try this product, I surely understand why everyone keep raving about it. It has a small applicator, which will comb your individual brow’s hair flawlessly, thicken it, giving you that “Cara brows”. However, I think this product suits better for people who already have thick eyebrow to begin with, or else, you still need that other brow tools to help you.
Stretch Concealer in Light– I quite like this products from Glossier. The name really describes the product, it “stretch”! Yesss girls, it gives you great coverage, very buildable, neutralize your imperfections – not cakey or too creamy like other concealers. But, I do recommend wearing a setting powder since it could make your mascara or eyeliner smudgy under your eyes ( for people who has normal to oily skin ).
Generation G Matte Lipstick in Crush – Finally, last but not least, Generation G Matte Lipstick. This product is very sheer, but buildable. I purchase the Crush one, sheer rose pink color that brightens my complexion. Everyone said it feels like a lipbalm, glides on very smooth, but has a matte finish. To me, this feels like a tinted lipbalm. Since I often suffer from a VERY dry lips ( I drink tons of water though ), I won’t use this lipstick without a clear balm to start with as it will just give my lips a disaster moment.
In the first picture, I apply only to my bottom lips. In the second picture, what the color looks like after I blend the lipstick
To sum it up, I will say I am quite satisfied with Glossier’s products. And I am happy that I finally can get my hands on these products. It might not be the one for everyone, especially for those who have oily skin to begin with. But if you have normal skin, that does not need much coverage, and love dewy skin + sheer makeup, then give these products a try! They just launched 3 super serums, and I would love to get my hands on it and share it with you guys. So, if there are any suggestions – let me know on the comment section below!
And by the way, now there are some Indonesian’s online shop on Instagram that finally open Pre-Order for Glossier’s products *YEAY*. I highly recommend this shop, @Allthingschicjkt – Fyi, I ordered a Balmdotcom from them for a gift to my friend and it delivered just like it was promised.
